Data Quality research group

About

Welcome to the Data Quality group at Utrecht Univeristy

The ‘data quality’ research group is based at the Department of Methodology and Statistics at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and was founded by Joop Hox and Edith de Leeuw around 2001. Over the years the research group has conducted studies in a number of different fields of survey methodology . Nonresponse, mixed-mode surveys and the design of web surveys were important topics in the first five years. In the period of 2010-2020 the group focused on panel studies, mixed-mode surveys, and especially on mixed-device surveys.

In most recent years, the group has expanded into studying how to improve data collection in general; how can surveys be combined with other sources, such as administrative data, digital trace data or sensor data to improve the quality of social scientific research data? The group focuses on how to do better measurements, how to minimize and correct for selection errors in data, and how to integrate data from different sources in data collection. Please have a look around this site to learn more about publications from the group,  materials used in courses and workshops around data quality, and other resources such as videos or software.
